As The X Factor live shows lurch on into a fifth week, they have hit on a ripping good theme: Club Classics! Doubtless they’ll ruin it by extending the definition to include Steps and the Bee Gees, but here in the Sea of Conjecture you are guaranteed nothing but all-killer-no-filler dancefloor bangers (for my faves in each category, at least).
ARE YOU READY TO CLUUUU... Beeeeeow der der der, duh duh duh der, BOOM!
- Boys Marcus. My choice: Got To Turn Around by Phats and Small and Make Luv by Room 5 feat Oliver Cheetham. I suggested this combo last year for Paije when I got mildly obsessed with him; I know Marcus wouldn’t be quite as good at it, but I wanna see these tunes on The X Factor. And Craig would not pull them off. Heaven knows what he’ll be doing. Probably not the only song that could possibly be good for him, Carry Me Home by Glowworm.
- Girls Janet. My choice: In For The Kill by La Roux (Skream’s Let’s Get Ravey Mix, natch). Her quavery voice won’t suit most house bangers, but might be ideal for some spooky dubstep, which makes this contemporary classic absolutely bang on. Plus she’s got red hair.
- Groups Little Mix. My choice: Get Up (Before The Night Is Over) by Technotronic. Oh, yeaaaah. German early 90s house, pre-Eurotrance, with lots of different rapping and singing bits, plenty of girl-power potential, and an irresistible groove that will appeal to today’s youngsters and the oldies who liked it the first time round as well. Tulisa, you know what to do.
- Oldies Johnny. My choice: Don’t Call Me Baby by Madison Avenue. Johnny’s actually-good performances lately have probably bought him the luxury of another novelty blow-out, so here it is. Give it some sass, mister.
Of course there are lots of other goodies that could be busted out. Misha doing Dreamer by Livin’ Joy, Kitty doing Let Me Be Your Fantasy, even Frankie with a very louche I Like The Way You Move. Can’t lose this week. I will be watching. And bonus marks for anyone who does Nadia Oh.
