18 May 10 | Re: Unbeatable tour de force
Sorry again for the late post, as the blogger said to nobody, but even though it’s Wednesday it’s time to wrap up Monday Music for the time being. There are many ways to round off a set of songs, but I can’t think of a better one than this:
The Kinks - Waterloo Sunset on We7
I actually went to see Ray Davies on Thursday and he played this, among many other classics of course. I hadn’t heard it for a while, and was even slightly surprised to remember how good it is. I’m not the first person to say there’s never been a better song written or recorded - the melody, the lyric, the arrangement and the production all seem impossible to improve.
As I said above, I’m going to stop writing about songs for a bit. I may bring back the quiz questions instead. So to mark the end of a feature, I’ve prepared playlists of all the songs I’ve featured for you to listen to on both Spotify and We7. Where available, that is - there are some gaps, which I’ve tried to fill with alternatives that are close spiritual cousins of my original choices. That means that the two versions are slightly different, and that even if you’ve been reading avidly you will hopefully find something to surprise and delight you. Click to listen.
